Similar to the heels cracking symptom, thinning of the eyebrows (most commonly the outer 1/3) and/or the scalp hair is a sign of thyroid dysfunction. Although frequently the culprit in this problem is the thyroid, treating just the thyroid and only the thyroid has rarely warranted optimal success. Hormones from one gland do not alter themselves without altering other hormones, whether it is the adrenal glands, the ovaries or testes, the pineal or the pituitary glands. Additionally, the immune system and primarily the thymus gland, play an important role in thyroid health as do the parotid glands. So as thyroid issues are becoming an ever-increasing problem and more and more people are medicated every day based off symptoms and lab tests, remember that you don’t just wake up one day with “a thyroid problem”. The entire hormonal system must be taken into account.
