Often I get asked whether a person should drink [cow’s milk]. After all, the dairy industry runs a huge campaign to promote their superfood claiming everybody should have a milk mustache. Yet what many people don’t know is that the majority of milk contains hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, and the powerful growth hormone. Even viral strains have been detected in milk. Milk often contains antibiotics since that is what the cows are given. The diseases linked to drinking milk, both functional and pathological, are astronomical, and the claims they make regarding osteoporosis prevention have never been supported.
Pasteurization is one problem with milk. It kills off the many beneficial enzymes, beneficial bacteria, and immunoglobulins which is found in pasture-fed cow milk that isn’t given any drugs or hormones. Homogenization is the other problem – forcing the fats into suspension so it looks good on the store cooler shelf. Homogenization is linked with heart disease.
If you can get raw milk, make sure it is from grass fed cows only, never any grain fed animals. The grain fed cows often have diseases and unhealthy bacteria in them. From clinical experience, I feel the reason many people have a milk allergy is because of the pasteurization & homogenization process. I see those with dairy allergies have no problem with raw milk. It’s legal in 23 states; hopefully one day all.
